Stallion selection
Would you like to have a stallion approved for breeding in the Selle Français Stud Book?
Here are the different pathways available:
2- and 3-Year-Old SF Males and Males Registered in a Constituent Stud Book (PS, AQPS, CSAN, TF, AR, AA, DSA, OC)
Participation in qualifying breeding shows in autumn, followed by the Final and the Testing.
Details available in the Selle Français Breeding Selection Program and competition regulations.
4-, 5- and 6-Year-Old Males – Eventing and Dressage
Contact the Stud-Book directly at the following address to request an evaluation during the finals of the Le Mans or Pompadour Classic Cycle: elisa.pautex@sellefrancais.fr
4-, 5-, 6- and 7-Year-Old Males – Show Jumping
Systematic evaluation by the Stud Book during the Classic Cycle Finals at Fontainebleau.
Owners of selected horses are contacted directly for approval confirmation.
For males registered in another stud book: please contact elisa.pautex@sellefrancais.fr
Male horses over 7 years old from the Selle Français studbook and other WBFSH studbooks.
The horse must be evaluated either during an approval commission organized by the Selle Français Stud-Book or during a competition.
Prior to this, complete the approval application file (below) and send it to the Stud-Book.
Males Aged 8 and Over – SF and Other WBFSH Stud Books :
Approval upon request, by presenting the stallion during one of the designated events::
- Printemps des Sports Équestres (Fontainebleau) – April 16 to 19 (Dressage) and 22 to 26 (Jumping), 2026
- Normandie Horse Show – July 27 to August 9, 2026
- Sire of the World Lanaken – September 16 to 20, 2026
- Equita Lyon – October 28 to November 1st, 2026
Free registration : A digital approval application form must be submitted to elisa.pautex@sellefrancais.fr.
Please also include:
– approval certificates from other stud books
– veterinary X-rays if the stallion is based abroad
– competition videos showcasing the horse’s best level
The application may be supplemented by the Stud Book upon request (fee: €200).
Requests must be submitted at least 10 working days before the approval meeting.
Before submitting an application, we strongly recommend contacting the Selle Français Stud Book team to verify the stallion’s eligibility for approval — based on sporting results and/or offspring performance
Applications must be submitted at least 5 business days prior to the Stud Book Approval
Committee meeting.
After this deadline, the application will be deferred to the next available meeting. .
Tentative schedule of upcoming Approval Committee meetings (subject to change):
- Mid-April or late April 2026
- Mid-June 2026
- Thursday, September 3 and Sunday, September 6, 2026
- Early October 2026
- Wednesday, November 18, 2026
- December 10 and 12, 2026
- Mid-January 2027
Post-Approval Administrative Requirements
If a stallion receives a favorable opinion from the Selle Français Stud Book Approval Committee, an administrative file must be completed in order to obtain Selle Français breeding certificates.
The file must include:
• Conformation evaluation by Selle Français judges, to be scheduled with the Stud
Book team (ideally before submitting the application to the Committee)
• X-ray report:
o Either the radiographic assessment issued by CIRALE (see details in the OsteoArticular Protocol for Stallions below)
o Or the radiographic report from a previous approval in another stud book
o Stallions aged 16 or older are exempt from the X-ray requirement
